The funeral for Charles Macel Poynter, 78, of Martinsville, who died Jan. 7, 2011, at his home, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Community Funeral Service in Ridgeway with Pastor Kenny Daniels officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.

In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Community Funeral Service.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the home of his daughter at 290 Grassy Creek Road, Martinsville.

He was born in Coopers, W.Va. on Jan. 16, 1932, to Charlie M. Poynter and Chloe Larue Poynter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Birdie Taylor Poynter; a son, David Poynter; and a sister, Wedith Hopkins.

He served in the National Guard, and he was a truck driver for Smith’s Transports in Bluefield, W.Va., before becoming disabled.

Surviving are his daughter, Regina “Orphan� P. Hall of Martinsville; a sister, Maggie Holley of Bluefield; a brother, Walter Poynter of Bluefield; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
