A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1:00 - 4:00 pm, a reflection of Roger's life will be at 3:00 pm on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Whitney Senior Center in St. Cloud for Roger S. Van Heel, 70, of St. Cloud who died Thursday, April 19. Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, St. Cloud.
Roger was born on December 2, 1941 to Leonard and Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Hiltner) Van Heel in Melrose. He was a member of the United States Navy from 1960-1964 and was a musician in the Navy Band. Roger married Joyce Viere on June 20, 1964 in New Munich at Immaculate Conception Church. He was a Stearns County Attorney for 32 years until his retirement in 2003. Music was one of Roger's many talents; he played the trombone and tuba in various Dixieland and Polka bands. One of Roger's most enjoyable activities was fishing and sharing in the experience with family and friends. He was a caring man with a great sense of humor who will be greatly missed.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Joyce; children, Eric (Susan) of Lakeville, Tina (Marc) Van Herr of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Landon and Megan Van Heel, Sophia Van Herr and Madeleine Herr; siblings, Dolores Orth of St. Cloud, Lorraine (Orville "Orv") Kraus of New Brighton, Ralph (Lorraine) of Osseo, and Mary Anne (Gene) Middenorf of Melrose.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Jerome, Richard and Erwin "Erv".
