Dalton was the 1st of two children born to Charles and Genevieve (Shultz) Haase. His parents divorced in 1923 when he was 13 years old. His mother remarried 6 months later to Arthur Lee Roberts. This new family moved to Washington state and the mother changed their name to Roberts, even though the sons kept a relationship with their birth father, CHARLES HAASE.

Dalton married (1) Mary Louise Randle on July 14, 1936 in Clark County, Washington.

Dalton moved to Ventura County, California about 1944. He was employed as a Ventura County photographic specialist. He operated the County's photo reproduction department on the third floor of the courthouse and was a columnist on the county employee newspaper, published by the Ventura County Employees Association (VCEA). He was president elect of the VCEA. He also served on the boards of directors of the Ventura County Employees Federal Credit Union and the California Credit Union League.

Dalton and his 2nd wife, Florence, lived near his brother, Clete Roberts. He died at the age of 49 years at a Los Angeles hospital after a brief illness.
