Born Feb. 13, 1937, in Detroit, Mich., he was the son of the late Roy L. and Louise Root Baker. He was the husband of Barbara C. LeVee Baker, who died Jan. 14, 1995, and Kathryn "Kit" Wilhide Baker, who died March 30, 2012.
He retired in 1997 as a pump operator with Baltimore County Fire Department at Station 1 in Towson, and he also retired in 2011 from Westminster Hydraulics in Taneytown as a crane salesman.
He was a life member of Pleasant Valley Fire Company, and belonged to Daylight Lodge No. 1, Door to Virtue Lodge No. 46, Monocacy Lodge No. 203, was a life member of Baltimore Scottish Rite as a 32nd degree Knight Commander Court of Honor, Boumi Shrine Temple, Bee Hive Club, Carroll Scottish Rite Club, and Western Maryland Shrine Club. He was also a member of the National Association Rail Cars of America (NARCOA).
He enjoyed repairing, collecting and displaying Lionel trains.
Surviving are children Janice L. Maisel, of Sykesville, Jack E. and wife Brenda Baker, of Finksburg and Michelle C. Robertson, of Littlestown, Pa.; step-children Debra Wilhide Meyers, of Sykesville, John F. and wife Erica Wilhide, of Baltimore, and Kristen L. and husband Michael Rudolph, of Towson; grandchildren Matthew Maisel, Tara and Cody Robertson, Dylan Baker, and Jennifer Norris; and five step-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Mark Maisel.
