"In 1861 to 1862 I lived in Orleans Fauquier Co., from Jan. 1862 to Nov. 1862 I lived in Warrenton, Fauquier Co., from 1862 to 1865 I lived at Carter's Run, farming 75 acres of rented land, late part of the war, I was in Alexandria, working as Quartermaster, for the Federal Government under Capt. Lee. In 1861 and 1862 the Confederate Army threatened to hang me."

William H. Payne, Orleans, Fauquier Co.
"I was in the Union Service, I drove team with the IL. Regt."
