DEATH OF ASA S. HAWLEY


One of Sevier county's oldest and best known citizens responded to the roll call of death Wednesday night. Asa Smith Hawley, a resident of Central for more than 45 years passed away at the home of one of his sons in that town from old age and debility. He was 81 years of age, coming to Sevier county when all conditions were more or less primitive and had lived in the state nearly 65 years. Everybody in this section knew Asa Hawley for he was a pioneer of the very early days. Mr. Hawley was an excellent citizen well posted in all matters historical and was a great reader, with an active mind and a retentive memory. He is survived by five children, Hon. A. R. Hawley, Charles R. Hawley, E.D. Hawley, Mrs. Susan H. Staples and Mrs. Bertha Hawley Greenwood. There are 45 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. The funeral will occur in Central tomorrow afternoon.
