Rita B. Kleman, 84, New Cleveland, died at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2005, in Putnam Acres Care Center, Ottawa. She was born Nov. 26, 1920, in Putnam County, the daughter of Aloysius and Veronica (Schmiedebusch) Verhoff. On April 20, 1947, she married Alvin Kleman, who died Dec. 1, 2004. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in New Cleveland, its Altar Rosary Society and Catholic Ladies of Columbia 215 and Ottawa DAV Post Auxiliary. Surviving are a son, Joseph (Marcia) Kleman, Glandorf; three daughters, Mrs. Gary (Kathleen) Ehrnsberger of Kalida, Mrs. James (Marilyn) Thomas Jr. of New Bavaria and Mrs. Jeff (Annette) Niese, Defiance; two brothers, Elmer Verhoff of Cuba, Ohio, and John Verhoff, Charlotte, N.C.; four sisters, Gertrude Nienberg of Glandorf, Clara Gerker and Mrs. Ed (Helen) Luersman of Ottoville and Mrs. Larry (Veronica) Luersman, Delphos; and 10 grandchildren, Mrs. Sondra (Andrew) Orzechowski, Mrs. Larry (Cherie) Kemper, Chad Ehrnsberger, Brad Kleman, Jamie Thomas and Nathan, Jonathon, Ashleigh, Brandon and Cameron Niese; and five great-grandchildren, Kayla, Morgan and Lauren Orzechowski and Dylan and Rachel Kemper. Also preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Cornelius Verhoff; and a sister, Stella Knueven. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2005, in St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City, with Father Robert DeSloover officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
