Mr. Eugene Brady Johnson, 82, of Mt. Airy, NC went to Heaven Friday, April 20, 2012 surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born in Surry County to the late Mary McHone and King Brady Johnson on December 30, 1929. He graduated from White Plains High School, after which he married his high school sweetheart, Mildred Badgett. After her passing in 1990, he married Betty Sue Easter, January 1997. Eugene was a fixer at Sara Lee Hosiery, formerly Granite Hosiery, (now Hanesbrands, Inc.), until he retired in 1992. He was an active member of Blue's Grove Baptist Church, where he served humbly as a Deacon for 48 years. He enjoyed visiting and delivering meals to those in need. He loved being in the garden on his tractor and was an enthusiastic patron of Aunt Bea's Restaurant. Eugene is survived by his loving wife, Betty Sue Easter Johnson of the home; his daughter and son-in-law, Gail Johnson Moorefield and Harold Moorefield of Mt. Airy; a daughter-in-law, Karen Montgomery Johnson of Charleston, SC; a step-son, Terry Easter of Mt. Airy; his adoring grandchildren and spouses, Kristi Johnson Marion and husband, Neil of Winston Salem, Kelli Johnson Billings and husband, David of Shallotte, NC and Brady Johnson of Due West, SC; Jordan Easter of Mt. Airy; three great grandchildren, Ella and Slate Marion of Winston-Salem and Luke and Jasmyn Billings of Shallotte, NC; sisters and brothers-in-law, Georgia and Bill Lundy, Patty Stafford, Jo Anne and Randall Bryant, Edith and Paul Owen and Linda and Danny Martin all of Mt. Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Badgett Johnson; his son, Michael Ray Johnson; and his brother, Clayton Johnson. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 23, 2012 at Blue's Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Sammy Lawson, Rev. Ricky Thomas and Bob McHone. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy where the body will remain until the time to be taken to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.
