After J. B. Vaughn's death sometime in the early 1880s, Mary remarried to William Marion Lowery, also a widower, in Gibson County, Tennessee. To this union were born five children: Esther Lowery Bradford, William "Willie" Lowery, Samuel Lowery, John Lowery, and Verner Lowery.
Mary died in May of 1897 of influenza. Marion proceeded her a few days later. After their deaths, the Lowery children lived with various families in the area. They can be found on the 1900 census as "wards" in Gibson County, Tennessee.
