Gilbert L. Salvage was born in Lubbock, TX and grew up in Banning Pass CA. After my mother, Doris Mae Wiggin's father passed away in 1922, he married my grandmother Velma. He was a great mentor for my growing up years. He and grandma Velma A. Salvage (Wiggins) lived in a house on Buena Vista Avenue just below the town of Montrose CA. From the early 1920s thru his death in 1969.

He was a PFC with the 116th Trench Mortar Battalion US Army in WW 1. He was with the 41st Sunset Division. During WW2 he was a block warden for Civil Defense and was a tireless volunteer in all civic affairs of the community. He worked for Challenge Creamery (dairy) Los Angeles for many years and all thru WW2, he managed to bring home scarce butter and eggs. He was active for over 40 years in the American Legion Post 288 La Crescenta CA, and the VFW. He was also a reserve LA county sheriff. He was a great grandfather to me and I still miss him to this day.
