He entered the United States Navy as midshipman 1 January 1808, promoted to lieutenant 19 December 1814, served in the War of 1812, cruised in the "Macedonian" 1815-18 during the Algerian War; promoted master-commandant 8 March 1831 and Capain 8 March 1841. He married Harriett, daughter of Augustine Davis of Richmond City, VA on 28 February 1818. This information and he is shown to be the son of George Webb and Judith Tarleton in "Webb Family of New Kent, VA in Genealogies of Virginia Families from The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography.
