According to his death certificate his death was accidental and instantaneous. He was a fireman and also worked for GTR as a locomotive Engineer. I am not sure the exact circumstances of his death, but his brother Thomas died in a locomotive explosion in 1908. Thomas Phibbs also worked for Grand Trunk Railroad.
