George Franklin Applebee was born July 13, 1858 near La Harpe, Illinois; died April 12, 1920, at hi hime near Burr Oak, Kansas, age 62 years and 9 months.

Short services were conducted at the home after which the body was taken to McCable chapel west of Jewell where the funeral sermon was preached by Rev. W. E. Dunlap, pastor of the Methodist church of Burr Oak.

Mr. Applebee was united in marriage to Margaret Backer, on June 16, 1876 at Mankato, Kansas. To this union eight boys and three girls were born; Edgar A. of Jewell City, Louis of Mankato, Elsie of Lincoln, Nebr., Wesley, who died at the age of 10 years, Harvey of Lebanon, Joseph of Esbon, Emma of Esbon, Redmond of Lebanon, an infant daughter who died, Milo of Burr Oak and Elmer. All the living children except the eldest daughter were with him when he was called home.

He was the fourth child of a family of six, one sister and two brothers surviving. He also leaves 22 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

He made his home near Lebanon for the last 15 years and only moved to the home place near Burr Oak last December.

Mr. Applebee was a man of high moral standing and a friend to every one whom he met. He united with the Methodist church 36 years ago at Mayview, Kans., and kept his faith in Christ through all the years. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and Knights and Ladies of Security Lodges. Through all his suffering in the last 10 years of his life he was always kind, cheerful and thoughtful for his entire family, his one wish being that he might have them all with him.
