Daughter of James William Hammons and Bessie Lee Harris.
Maggie was our next door neighbor starting in 1970 on up until her death. She lived alone but had a large family that came to visit her and sometimes stayed when they needed a place to live.
Maggie was in great shape mentally and physically for her age.
I never knew much about her past, but now that I look back you could tell she had a rough life. She was always trying whatever she could to make ends meet.
The memories that I have of her that stand out most are the auctions that she loved to go to, she would search through all those unwanted treasures and usually find exactly what she was hunting for.
She would let me know when she was going and offered to take me along;
For awhile I would go, but there came a time when I got to "Cool" to be hanging with Maggie,
Why that was like hanging out with my Mom!
Now at this stage in life I realize "Cool" really interprets "Stupid"
And what I wouldn't give to go back and be so very "Uncool" this time around! :o)
We spent many summer nights playing Yahtzee together and one summer I thought I was going to get filthy rich while helping her hunt night crawlers!
It only took one night for me to figure out that all I got was filthy and that this wasn't the job for me, rich or not!
So I backed off and let Maggie have that fortune all to herself!
That's one decision that to this day I can honestly say I don't have any regrets over! :o)
Maggie was best friends with Veila Coop, our other next door neighbor and more than I knew at the time; these women were very important additions to my life.
So now with many thanks to Find a Grave, I can honor these special people with a Memorial on this site.
Maggie, I know that I never told you but I have a special place in my heart for you and I think of you often.
Rest peacefully sweet lady because the hard part is now over.
