Mary Elizabeth Beaumont was born on November 23, 1882, in Grant, Wisconsin, her father, Drayton, was 20, and her mother, Alice, was 17. She married William Fletcher Locke. He died in 1903 from smallpox leaving Mary Elizabeth as a young widow with one child, Lennia Locke and expecting another who was born later in 1903, Lavine Locke. She moved back to Wisconsin from South Dakota. She then married Alonzo John "Lon" Ward, a widower in 1905 and they had four children together, three girls and one son. She died on September 4, 1963, in Boscobel, Wisconsin, at the age of 80, and was buried there in the Boscobel Cemetery.
