Hanson, Reuben F. Reuben F. Hanson, age 80, of Manitowoc died Monday, April 23, 2012 at Manitowoc Health & Rehab Center. Reuben was born February 22, 1932 to the late Raymond and Myrtle (Anderson) Hanson of Kohler. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Reuben was united in marriage to the former Janet Knaus on June 23, 1956 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Sheboygan. Janet preceded Reuben in death on Jan. 7, 2010. Our Dad was a kind and gentle man, always putting others before himself. He instilled in his children and grandchildren strong family values, commitment to church and community, and a discipline to achieve goals. We have been blessed to have been touched by a wonderful father, grandfather, brother and friend. Reuben graduated from Kohler High School, class of 1950. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a Masters degree in Botany. "Mr. Hanson" fulfilled his dream to be a high school science teacher at Lincoln High School in Manitowoc; retiring in 1990. Reuben also taught science and coached football and swimming at Woodrow Wilson Junior High. For 3 decades, Reuben, his wife Janet and their family, spent summers at Lofty Pines Campground in St. Germain, WI; a family tradition that has continued to this day. Reuben is survived by four children, Jill (Jeff) Madden of Manitowoc, James "Jamie" (Lisa) Hanson of Sudbury, Massachusetts, Heidi (Mike) Reinbold of Sheboygan, John (Pam) Hanson of Ashwaubenon, grandchildren Katie and Kelly Kotarek, Matthew, Anna, Katherine and Andrew Hanson, Greg, Doug (fianceé Kristin) and Laura Reinbold, and Jake and Cole Hanson. Reuben is further survived by his sisters Mary (Bob) Rogers of Boiling Springs, North Carolina, and Katherine "Kathie" (Leon) Lienau of Oxford, WI. The family will greet friends and relatives on Thursday, April 26, 2012 from 4-7 P.M. at Reinbold and Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, 818 State Street, Manitowoc. A Prayer Service led by Deacon Paul Kieffer will be held at 7 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Friday, April 27, 2012 from 10-11 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish (Waldo site). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 A.M. Friday, April 27, 2012 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish (Waldo site), Waldo Blvd. and N. 14th Street, Manitowoc with the Rev. Daniel Viertel officiating.
