Fay M. Mertens, age 92, a resident of Oak Creek Assisted Living, Kiel died Monday, April 23, 2012.

She was the former Fay M. Olmsted born April 27, 1919, daughter of the late Henry and Hilda (Schoen) Olmsted.

Fay was a 1937 graduate of New Holstein High School.

On August 30, 1939 Fay was united in marriage to Leo J. Mertens at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. Leo preceded her in death on March 20, 2010.

She had worked at the former Hansen Glove Factory, Kiel and the State Bank of Kiel.

Fay was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel & the Christian Women Society. She was also a member of the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters and the American Legion Auxilary, New Holstein.

She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing cards, knitting, crocheting, reading, bowling and watching game shows. She also was an avid Packer and Brewer fan.

Survivors include her three children, William (Audrey) Mertens, Eileen (David) Walsdorf and Peter (Judy) Mertens, all of Kiel; and six grandchildren, Amy (Scott) Spielmann, New Berlin, Nicholas (Angie) Mertens, Kiel, Paula (Ron) See, Chilton, Penny (Ron) Knapp, Stevens Point, Lucas Mertens & fiancee, Renea Vorpahl, Kiel and Michael Mertens, Milwaukee. She is further survived by six great-grandchildren, Robbie Spielmann, Isabelle See, Leo, Elena, and Audrey & Erin Knapp; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Winnie Mertens, New Holstein, James (Irene) Mertens, Kiel, Clem (Pat) Mertens, Oneida, Jeanette Hanson, Milwaukee, Sr. Mary Jane Mertens, Manitowoc, Sr. Doris Mertens, Manitowoc, and Kitty (Ed) Shumaker, Waukegan, IL; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Hilda Olmsted; one brother, Gordon Olmsted; four brothers-in-law, Francis, John, Ray & Robert Mertens; two sisters-in-law, Louise & Mary Mertens; and in-laws, Clemens & Marie Mertens.

The funeral Mass for Fay will be celebrated at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 413 Fremont St., Kiel with Rev. Loren Nys S.D.S. officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
