Ray G Groussman died Saturday, January 18, 1997, at his home in Salt Lake City of a brain tumor.

He was born December 15, 1935 in Price, Utah, the first of five children of Raymond K and Gene Goetzman Groussman. He was raised and educated in Utah and California. He graduated from Olympus High School; University of Utah Bachelor of Science, 1961; University of Utah College of Law Juris Doctor, 1966. Ray was admitted to practice law before the Utah State Bar and the United States Supreme Court. He was employed as a Salt Lake City Police Officer while in law school, and was staff attorney for Utah Legal Services. He was Chief Civil Deputy, Salt Lake County Attorney's Office, and was an associate in the law firm of Pugsley, Hayes, Watkiss, Campbell & Cowley. He joined Mountain Fuel Supply Company in 1974 as General Counsel, and worked as Vice President and General Counsel of Questar Corporation since 1977. Ray served on several community boards including Utah Legal Services, United Way, Salt Lake Legal Defenders Association, Children's Service Society and American Corporate Counsel Association. He was a member of the American Bar Association, Federal Energy Bar Association, American Gas Association, Pacific Coast Gas Association where he served as chairman of the legal advisory council, and Salt Lake County Bar Association. He enjoyed an active and rewarding career. Ray served with the U.S. Army and was a retired Lt. Commander U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. He loved his country and traveled in many foreign lands. He was a SSI scuba instructor, sharing the sport he loved with his students. He was happiest when planning our next dive trip! He loved his daily run up City Creek Canyon, he spent many happy hours in the kitchen, was a voracious reader, and loved to watch movies and read stories with his four grandchildren. He was a proud and ethical man, a thoughtful man of great character and subtle sense of humor.Ray is survived by his wife Marilyn, children Adam, Daniel, Laura and Bruce, Kathy and Raed; and precious grandchildren, Ryan, Madison, Max, and Lea. Other surviving family include his father Raymond K Groussman, Oceanside, CA., brother Dean Groussman, Dallas, TX., sisters Susan Winegar, Salt Lake City, UT.; Joan O'Flaherty, Davis, CA.; Florence Johnson, Denver, CO. He will be remembered with love and respect.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 22, 1997, noon at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 Highland Drive. Those wishing may visit with family one hour prior to services. He will be buried at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, near his beloved mother and brother-in-law Ramon. It was Ray's wish that memorial gifts be sent to Children's Service Society of Utah, 124 South 400 East, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111 to help in their efforts to improve the lives of children in our community.
