Obituary: WAYNE CO PRESS, Fairfield, IL, Th, Apr 18, 1907. LIBERTY...."On the 8th inst Mrs. Mary Ewing departed this life after a lingering illness of consumption. Mrs. Ewing was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church and had lived a consistent life for the past 30 years. To know her was to love her. She was ever ready to minister to the wants of the poor and needy. She let her light shine on earth and if there are degrees in heaven we believe she will occupy the highest. It was our privilege to be called two days before her demise to administer to her physical wants and we must say that we never saw anyone who in the shadow of death was more resigned or more submissive to the master's will. Her remains were laid to rest in Bethel cemetery on April 9. Rev. Peter Prince of Barnhill, delivered the funeral oration." [signed Rob Roy] (Researched in the Fairfield Library by Bev Ewing 1980s.)
She was married to Charles Alonzo Ewing and is buried next to him in Bethel Cemetery. Daughter Alice also buried there.
LAND TRANSACTION Bk 63 p. 178 Wayne Co, IL (Fairfield, IL): "Mrs. Mary Ewing (widow), Co of Wayne, State of Illinois for consideration of Ninety-Six dollars in hand paid, convey and warrant to Sigmund Steiner of the Co. of Wayne and State of IL, the following real estate, to wit: THE SOUTH HALF OF THE SOUTH EAST FOURTH OF THE NORTH EAST QUARTER SECTION ONE (1) Township 3 S., Range 8 E situated in the County of Wayne....[dated] 15 Nov 1887."
