Mr. Brewer died Sunday at his home. He was born in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and graduated from Treadwell High School in Memphis, Tenn. He attended Memphis State University. Since 1959, he was a resident of Bryan, where he was best known as the "shoe man" at Conway's Men Store in Downtown Bryan. He later became the owner.
Mr. Brewer was active in civic affairs and was past president of the Bryan Jaycees, as well as Young Entrepreneur of the Year. He was a territory manager for Sebago, H.S. Trask and E.T. Wright. He was a member of the Southwestern Shoe Traveler Association and the World Shoe Association. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Tony Morton of Bryan; a son and his fiancee, Gus Brewer and LaLa Martinez of Houston; his mother, Cora Margaret Brewer of Memphis; a sister, Barbara Hollingsworth of Memphis; three grandchildren; and two nieces.
