Charles Robert Grimes was born Aug 18, 1881 at Persia, IA., Washington Twp., Harrison County in the Valley View district. There is a cemetery there now. His father was William Lloyd Grimes of Ohio, his mother, Alcenda Tucker of Ill. William was a farmer in Persia area so Charles grew up on a farm. He was the sixth child of seven children. In 1890 when Charles was 8 and a sister 10, they moved to OK. His father died here in 1899. Charles, his sister and mother made a home together and Charles worked in the oil fields at Beaumont, Texas. Later they lived in Oregon, Colorado and Missouri, finally back to Harrison County, IA. in the early 1900s where he farmed for 25 years or more.
Charles married Myrle Gage on the 12th of Dec. 1911 - daughter of Ed J. Gage and Luella DeJean of Woodbine. She was born May 17, 1892. They had four children Dorothy Lyman, Frances Krakow, Marian Lyman and Charles Robert, Jr. In 1939, after the children were married the parents went to CA where they resided for over 20 years. When they came back they wanted to come to Woodbine but bought a house in Omaha where Charles died in 1966 at age 85. He was buried in Woodbine and his wife now resides in Woodbine.
