He was born Feb. 2, 1909, in the town of Maine to Carl and Margaret Maahs. On Sept 13, 1930, he married Arlene C. Schmidt in Winona, Minn. She died Oct 22, 1981.
An area resident all of his life, Mr. Maahs was employed at Anderson Brothers and Johnson Quarries in the Town of Maine. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, town of Maine. He was a former civil defense volunteer in the Town of Maine and a former member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 480 in Wausau.
Survivors include one son, Keith, town of Maine; one daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Lorraine) Voeltzke, Merrill; one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Arndt, Wausau; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A son, Walter Jr., died earlier.
Services will be at 10:30 am Wednesday at the Faith Lutheran Church, town of Maine. The Rev. Randy Schulz will officiate. Burial will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery, town of Maine. Friends may call from 4 to 8 tonight at the Taylor Funeral Home, Merrill, and from 9 am Wednesday until time of services at the church.
