Ruth Ann was the daughter of John C. Ostrander and Ann (possibly Annie Brat).

She married James Spence on Jan 12, 1859 in St. Clair, Michigan.

Ruth and James farmed first in Lapeer Co. and then later in Newaygo Co. before moving to Harris Co. Texas and continuing to farm there.

The couple had the following children: James, Edward, Edith, John, Alexis, Charles, Garfield & Minnie.
