Daughter of the late William Doyle Gregory and Leila Bell Harmon Gregory, Mrs. Ladd passed away Monday, May 28, 2012, at the home of her son Billy Ladd. She was born Aug. 7, 1925, in Pomaria, S.C. and was graduated from Monticello High School. She attended Newberry College and the Columbia Hospital School of Nursing. Dot was married Aug. 22, 1944, to the late Thomas Albert Ladd. They were married for 39 years, and she enjoyed working with him in the family store. A homemaker who loved gardening she was active in the Women in the Church at Salem Presbyterian Church as well as the Richard Winn Academy Booster Club.

Mrs. Ladd is survived by three sons, Thomas Albert Ladd of Texas, City; Texas, William James, "Billy" Ladd (Martha) of Winnsboro, and Johnny Gregory Ladd (Becky) of Cross Hill, S.C.; one daughter, Lucy Caroline "Callie" Smith (Carl) of Tryon, N.C.; three grandchildren, Frances Ladd Lightcap (Jamie) of Spartanburg, S.C., Lucy Caroline "Callie" Ladd of Winnsboro, and William James Ladd; Jr. of Winnsboro; four great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandson. Also surviving are one brother, Robert Louis Gregory (Gerry) of Mooresville, N.C.; one sister, Marguerite Elizabeth Mayer of Columbia; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Lamb Gregory of Union, S.C., and Clara Lou Gregory of West Columbia; and other family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Sidney Harmon Gregory and William Doyle Gregory; and one brother-in-law, Carroll Bryan Mayer. The, family extends special appreciation to Laverne March for her care and devotion.

Funeral services for Johnnie Bell Gregory "Dot" Ladd, age 86, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Salem Presbyterian Church (PCA), Salem Crossroads, Blair, S.C., Burial followed in the church cemetery. The Reverend Richard B. Hodges officiated. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Tues., May 29, at Pope Funeral Home in Winnsboro. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Presbyterian Church or to Richard Winn Academy. Pope Funeral Home was of service to the family. Mrs. Dot Ladd was a long-time member of Salem Presbyterian Church since November 1944 when she met with the Session of the church and made a profession of her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was also active in the Women in the Church (WIC) organization.
