On 8 March 1942 at 6:30 PM John William Bryant died at age 52 years 11 months and 17 days old. The deceased died after an extended illness. His wife Ila Eulalah (Ricks) and married step daughter Wanda (Rose) Loewen were at his hospital bedside.

Mr. Bryant was born on 21 March 1890 in his Breckenridge, Stephens County, Texas home. He is the son of James Allen Bryant (born in Tennessee) and Martha Ellen (Lindsey) Bryant (born in Texas). Both parants preceded Mr. Bryant in death.

After the death of his father James (1900-1901), the family lived in Stephens County followed by Fisher County. While living in Hamilin, Texas Mr Bryant and his brother Hubert Allen Bryant supported their widow mother. About 1922, the deceased relocated to work with explosives in the California oil fields.

Mr. Bryant had moved from Hamilin, Texas to Huntington Beach, Orange County, California. There, he registered to vote. On 5 July 1923 Los Angles County, California he was united in marriage to Ila Eulalah (Ricks) Rose. The newly married couple lived in Huntington Beach until they relocated to Imperial County California.

Several years later, they relocated back to Orange County where the family made their final home in a Santa Ana rental located on W 3rd St. Mr. Bryant was now employed as a pipefitter (in the oil fields) at the time of his 1942 death.

Mr Bryant is survived by his wife Ila Eulalah (Ricks) Bryant of Santa Ana, 3-Bryant children of Santa Ana, California; 3-married Rose step-children of Los Angles and Santa Ana, California; 3-married Nolan step-children of Oregon and his only sibling Hubert Allen Bryant of Stephens County, Texas (memorial 122626652).

On 10 March 1942 Internment was at the Santa Ana Cemetery under the direction of the Smith & Tuthill Funeral Home.

Mr. Bryant's married (step-daughter) Wanda (Rose) Loewen, is "his" death record informant.

Mr. Bryant's 3-children and 6-married step children had a fairy good relationship with each other.

Each winter season from abt 1930-1942, the deceased, (son) John William Bryant Jr. and (son-in-law) Will R Loewen... hunted deer at Rockhouse for their winter meat. They also hunted big cats for bounty money together. Sometimes other family members or friends accompanied them.

Ila Eulalah (Ricks) Bryant and her husband John William Bryant; Wanda (Rose) Loewen and her husband William R Loewen; and Faye (Rose) Wise and her husband John Horton Wise lived next door to each other on W. 3rd Street Santa Ana, Orange County, California. There, little Dorothy Ann Wise died in 1937.

By the 1960's, the deceased 2-sons (John William Bryant Jr. and Hubert Allen Bryant Sr) bought the head-marker seen in this photo.

Many Thanks... to Macso for the photo of an otherwise lost family grave located in the old section of the Santa Ana Cemetery.
