ATHENS - A young Catskill father was killed early Sunday morning and his 9-year-old son injured when the snowmobile they were riding struck a parked car on Greene Lake Road and careened into a snowbank.
State Police said Edward Roberts, 28, of R.D. 3, Catskill, was pronounced dead on arrival at Greene County Memorial Hospital after the mishap, which occurred at 2:15 a.m. His son, Edward, Jr., complaining of neck, back and stomach pains, was treated in the emergency room of the hospital and released.
Roberts had been operating the snowmobile on County Route 49, (Greene Lake Road), near Gypsy Point Road, travelling north at the time of the accident. Police said he drove into the rear of a disabled car owned by Sharon Cole of Leeds, and then swerved across the road into a snowbank.
