From his obituary (Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter) on 29 July 2006:

"John J. Franz, age 84, a resident of River's Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc, died Friday morning, July 28, 2006 at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers.

"John was born July 10, 1922 in Manitowoc, son of the late John I. and Blanche (Sobiech) Franz. He was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1939. John served in the U.S. Army Air Corps Bomber Group 317 during World War II. On Aug. 18, 1945, he married Alice Manlick in Manitowoc.

"John was employed with the Aluminum Specialty Company, Manitowoc as a millwright retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, VFW Otto Oas Post 659, and the Manitowoc Stamp Club.

"Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006 at Rivers Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Memorial Service will be the Rev. Jim Vanden Hogen. Burial of the cremated remains will be at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc, at a later date."
