(October 18, 1920 - May 23, 2007)

Ray "Poppy" Akins age 86 of Maryville passed Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at the family home.

He was a member of Dotson Memorial Baptist Church. Retired from Alcoa Aluminum Company after 30 years of service. He was a avid U.T. sports fan and awarded several accommodations for his volunteer community service. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy as a gunner's mate second class.

Preceded in death by wife of 58 years, Faye "Mimi" Akins; parents, Will I and Rosa Lee Gray Akins; brothers, Harvey "Butch", Arnold and Calvin Akins; brother and sister in law, Gene and Mary Sue Kennedy Akins; sister, Bunchy Akins.

Survivors daughter and grandson, Susie and Benjamin Wilson both of Maryville; sister and brother in law, Ruth and Howard Kirkland of Kansas City, MO; brother and sister in law, Barney and Phyllis Akins of Loudon; special sister in law, Lawson Underwood of Vonore.

Family and friends will meet at Sherwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 26 2007 for graveside service and entombment with military honors, Rev. R.M. Everett officiating.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to, Blount Home Health Services and Hospice, 1095 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37804. Family and friends may call at their convenience from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM Friday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville, TN.
