Berte Maria was born 12 Feb 1829, christened with the name Berthe Marie Jensdatter. Her parents were Jens Hansen and Kistine Christophersdatter. At the time of her marriage on 13 Apr 1853, she was living on the Sørum farm and her husband, Lars Børgersen was from the Olstad farm, both in Gjerdrum. The young couple had nine children, all born in Gjerdrum, the latter children born on the Kulsrud farm. The oldest daughter, Anne Kirstine "Stina", left the parish before them to find work in Kristiania (Oslo) and the oldest son emigrated to America before them. Berthe and Lars emigrated from Oslo, Norway in 1877 with the other four surviving children, sailing with the surname: Borgersen Kulsrud. The family settled in Holt Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota.
