"Melvin and Lenora Ackers observed their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 20, 2004. They were married Dec. 20, 1954, in Bozeman, Mont., and have lived in Vancouver for 38 years. The couple had three children. Mel was a highway engineer and worked for the U.S. Bureau of Public Roads and the Federal Highway Administration for 47 years at locations throughout the Pacific Northwest. He retired in 1999. Lenora was a school teacher for 20 years and later was a co-owner of a small sewing shop. She enjoys tutoring people in the English language."
