Obituary, Florida Times-Union, May 1-2, 2012
Barbara McCormick Tinney, passed away on April 29, 2012 after a brief illness, surrounded by her three children. Born February 16, 1941, she was a lifelong resident of the beaches and raised her family there. As a young girl, she was a Member of The Ribault Chapter, Order of the Rainbow for Girls and attended Fletcher High School.

Barbara was a vibrant, generous, beautiful woman who loved her family and friends with all her heart. A descendant of the Ortega family, Minorcans who came to St. Augustine in the late sixteenth century, Barbara was the granddaughter of B.B. McCormick, a North Florida pioneer in the 1800's. Through her McCormick heritage, she was a Life Member of the Clan Maclaine of Lochbuie and the St. Andrew's Society of Jacksonville. She studied and collected antiques and was especially knowledgeable about French art glass, silver, and art from the art nouveau and art deco periods.

Barbara was an enthusiastic traveler and visited throughout the United States, the Bahamas, Europe and the British Isles. She was especially fond of France and Scotland. Her beloved dogs were more than pets and she doted on Skipper and Scarlett.

Barbara is survived by a daughter, Lisa Shad Mantock (Jim) Richardson, TX, and two sons Benjamin McCormick Shad (Kim) Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Ernest F. Shad (Susie) and one granddaughter, Summer Lynn Shad, Atlantic Beach, FL. Other survivors include her mother, Mrs. A.D. Davis, Jacksonville, and brother Lee Richard McCormick (Meagan) Nashville TN, and eight nieces. She was predeceased by her beloved father, Benjamin Richard McCormick and her brother, Benjamin B. McCormick II. Barbara's extended family of cousins and their families and dear friends loved her dearly and will miss Barbara's humor, story-telling abilities and accurate observations of human nature. She was unique and unforgettable. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Beach United Methodist Church, Jacksonville Beach, with Rev. Carmen Johns officiating. Interment will follow in the McCormick Cemetery, Ft. Caroline Rd. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, at HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach. For those who prefer, memorials may be made to the Jacksonville Humane Society.
