US Congressman. He graduated from Union College (Schenectady, New York) in 1858, studied law, and was admitted to the bar in Malone, New York. He later moved to Boscobel, Wisconsin, where he practiced law and became active in politics as a Republican. Hazelton served as Grant County's Prosecuting Attorney from 1864 to 1868. In 1867 he was elected to the Wisconsin Senate, and he served two terms, including holding the post of President Pro Tempore. In 1876 he was elected to the US House, and he served three terms, 1877 to 1883. During his final term he served as Chairman of the Committee on Pacific Railroads. Hazelton subsequently moved to Washington, DC, where he practiced law and served as attorney for the District of Columbia during the Benjamin Harrison administration.
