In 1921 he became Commander of Troop H, of the 113th Iowa Cavalry. He was also a member in good standing in the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was awarded the Mexican Border Service medal, the Iowa State Mexican Border Service medal, the World War I Victory medal with Aisne-Marne, Oise-Aisne, Muese-Argonne, and Defensive Sector battle clasps and the Iowa State World War I service medal.
