Opal Ruth Mustard Kirk, 88, of Pearisburg, left her earthly life on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, with her family by her side, to enter into her heavenly home and into the arms of her loving husband of 63 years, Glen Gordon Kirk. Opal was born on March 22, 1924, to the late James Alfred and Flossie Lindsey Mustard in Berton. Along with her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, William Buford Mustard and Melvin Tuck Mustard; and one son-in-law, Lannie Ray St.Clair. Opal was a devoted member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Trigg, where she has served as a Sunday School teacher to many over the years. She was looked up to by many friends and family as a Christian role model, and known for her love of friends and neighbors. She made friends no matter where she went and had never met a stranger, her beautiful smile will be remembered in the hearts of many. Left to cherish her memory are three sons and a daughter-in-law, James (Jimmy) Gordon Kirk, of Staffordsville, William (Billy) Edward Kirk, of Pearisburg, and Michael Dale and Carol Kirk, of Pearisburg; two daughters and son-in-law, Rebecca (Becky) and Dean Moore, of Pulaski and Mary Leigh St.Clair, of Pearisburg; 11 grandchildren, Amy Shay, Beth Osborne, Susan Adkins, Billie Jean Huskey, Rachel Dawn Lineberry, Ashley St.Clair, Kristie Reed, Alicia VanHoozier, Samantha Trenar, Heather Kirk and Gary Evans; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Eva Mae and Harold Lafon of Rich Creek; one brother and sister-in-law, Kyle and Doris Mustard of Pearisburg; one brother-in-law, Walter Kirk and wife, Louise, of Rich Creek; and sister-in-law and special friend, Cleo Kirk, of Staffordsville. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Trigg with the Rev. Mike Watson, and the Rev. Gary Poff and special speaker Sharon Dunn officiating. Interment in the Kirk-Cemetery. Visitation will be at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate on Thursday after 2 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, you may make donations in her memory to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 3995 Eggleston Rd., Pearisburg, VA 24134. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Olsen, the doctors and staff of CGCH, and the many friends and family that have been supportive during this difficult time.
