MUNCIE--Barbara Lou (Chamness-Ayres) Ballinger, 79, lifelong resident of Delaware County, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 2, 2012 at Indiana University Ball Hospital.

Daughter of Lee Chamness and Sara Lucille (Burden Chamness) Cortner, she was born in Muncie on May 6, 1932. She graduated from Central High School and attended Muncie Business College. Her early employers include Marsh Supermarkets, Ball Brothers Corporation and J.C. Penney.

Married to James W. Ayres, she moved to Yorktown where she was a member of the Yorktown United Methodist Church and served as church secretary, and superintendent of Vacation Bible School. She enterred a rewarding career as a Library Clerk for Mt. Pleasant Township School Corporation and the Ball State University School of Architecture where she retired.

She married Arthur Ballinger, of Muncie, in 1977 (deceased 2006) and they were members of High Street United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her son, David B. Ayres.

Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 4600 W. Kilgore Ave., Muncie, IN, in the North Chapel of the Mausoleum.
