Mittnacht, Louise

Louise Mittnacht, age 94, a Manitowoc resident, entered eternal life on Friday, August 4, 2017 at the Cedar Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cedarburg.

Louise was born on December 9, 1922 in Berlin, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of the late Dr. John Ardin and Mary Louise Comer Younglove. Louise graduated from Berlin High School with the class of 1940. She continued her education and graduated from the National College of Education (now known as National-Louis University) in Evanston, IL in 1945. Louise then became a kindergarten teacher in Rockford , IL from 1945 to 1948. It was in 1948 when she moved to Manitowoc and became employed with the Manitowoc Public School System until 1950 and then later became employed with the school system in 1962 until 1985. Louise was also a licensed funeral director assisting her husband Cyril in the operation of the Mittnacht Funeral Home from 1953 to 1970. On September 30, 1950 she married Cyril W. Mittnacht in Berlin, WI. He preceded her in death on June 5, 1970. Louise was an active member in Masquers, Inc. and as a young women she performed in several plays. Louise was a local and state member of the National Education Association and Retired Teachers Association, active in the Elks Auxiliary for many years and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Association. In past years Louise was a member of the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church and now a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Louise was also a volunteer and member of the Capitol Civic Centre.

She is survived by two sons: Robert Mittnacht, Milwaukee; Joseph (Gina) Mittnacht, Bayside; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two sisters: Mary Y. Johnson, Kenosha; Joan Hansen, Mequon; one sister-in-law: Louise Mittnacht, Chilton; along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Dr. John and Mary Younglove; her stepmother: Emma Younglove; and her husband: Cyril Mittnacht.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo-1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Dave Pleier with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until the time of the prayer service at 7 p.m. lead by Fr. Dave which will conclude the visitation. The visitation will continue on Wednesday at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Following the graveside services at Evergreen Cemetery there will be a luncheon for relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 North Water Street, located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home.
