Jack Lee Smith was born 16 May 1928 in Oklahoma according to the California Death Index. His mother's maiden name was Barton. He served in the US Navy.

He married Marcile E. Durnal on 21 July 1953 in Faulkner County, Arkansas. They had one child, Deborah Lou "Debbie" Smith in 1954.

A member of the Masonic Lodge 434 of Britton, Oklahoma, he was a structural engineer who was said to have spent time working on the first underwater nuclear generators of electricity. His marker denotes his rank at discharge as US Navy Seaman Second Class World War II. He died in Downey, California of a massive heart attack on 5 September 1965.

Survivors included his wife, Marcile, their daughter, Debbie and a brother, Robert C. Smith of unknown. His service was conducted by Rev. Cecil Fuller in the Griffin-Leggett Funeral Home located on 12th Street in Little Rock, Arkansas. Burial was at the Roselawn Memorial Park.
