A member of the Masonic Lodge 434 of Britton, Oklahoma, he was a structural engineer who was said to have spent time working on the first underwater nuclear generators of electricity. His marker denotes his rank at discharge as US Navy Seaman Second Class World War II. He died in Downey, California of a massive heart attack on 5 September 1965.
Survivors included his wife, Marcile, their daughter, Debbie and a brother, Robert C. Smith of unknown. His service was conducted by Rev. Cecil Fuller in the Griffin-Leggett Funeral Home located on 12th Street in Little Rock, Arkansas. Burial was at the Roselawn Memorial Park.
