Confederate Officer. Born near Charlestown, Tennessee, August 20, 1837, Alexander was married August 12, 1860 to Miss Martha Pierce who died in 1898. He served in the Confederate army during the Civil War with the Forty-Third Tennessee Infantry from its organization to the close of the war, and for nine months was a prisoner at the infamous Fort Delaware prison located on Pea Patch Island. He came to Canon City to reside in 1867 and lived there since, operating a general merchandise store. He was elected county commissioner to fill an unexpired term in 1877 and again in 1881.
He was very genial and exceedingly fond of his friends. About 1901 he joined the M.E. Church South at Pueblo. He was instrumental in organizing the Confederate Camp No. 1457 in May 1902, and it was named the "A.F. Alexander Camp" in his honor. He was also a member of the Masons.
Cause of death: bronchitis and catarrh of the stomach.
