John was one of five known children born Charles Harding and Abigail Milbury Gorby. He is my second great grandfather.

His siblings were Charles, Elijah Jefferson, William and Olive Bivhenai (Frazier Smith). His brother Charles only shows up in the 1860 Census • Keene, Adams, Illinois and I cannot find him after that.

Between 1860 and 1870 the family moved from Hancock, Illinois to West Bear River, Yuba, California. There he met and married Amy Dowane, daughter of Morris de Lafayette Dowane and Ann Marshall on March 6, 1871 in West Bear River, Yuba, California. I was fortunate enough to be given their original marriage certificate. They became the parents of Annie Elizabeth Harding. On Dec. 10, 1871 their daughter Annie Elizabeth Harding was born. Sadly Amy died in August of 1873. Per letters I have from the family members from that time period the 1875 date of Amy and her sister Fanny's headstones is INCORRECT. When Amy died John purchased the plot where the Dowane Family are now buried in Wheatland Cemetery.

On July 8th, 1876 in Loma Rica, California John married Sarah Rowe, daughter of David Privine Rowe and Alameda Jane Holloway. From that union 5 known children were born.

Charles Arthur "Dick" Harding (1877-1951), William Francis "Frank" Harding (1879-1953), John Jefferson Harding (1880-1941), Ola Edith Harding (1884-1953) and Sadie Lorene Harding (1888-1977)

Johns obituary will be posted soon.
