. . . Besides being an active club woman, Miss Beers was known for her service as a Red Cross nurse during World War I. Miss Beers, who was taken in as the only woman member of Bonnie Sloan Post of American Legion at the time of its organization, died at 5 a.m. Sunday at her home, 1736 DePauw, following a long illness. An active member of the Legion for a number of years, she marched with post members when they turned out for military ceremonies. She served overseas from February 1, 1918 until May of the following year. Her many club affiliations included membership in the New Albany Woman's club and the Piankeshaw chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution. Miss Beers received her nursing training at Norton Memorial infirmary in Louisville, where she was graduated in 1898. She is survived by two brothers, Harry J. Beers and Charles Robert Beers, and two sisters, Miss Katherine Beers and Miss Carrie Beers, all of this city. - New Albany Tribune 24 Dec 1951 p11c3
