August "Virgil" Herrell, age 70, of Monroe Township, Mi was born in Lee County, Va. on July 25, 1935 and passed away Friday, March 3, 2006 at Mercy Memorial Hospital.
He was the son of Thurmon and Emily (Ervin) Herrell. He married Lue Phelps in Middlesboro, Ky in 1955. He was a past member of The Church of Christ in Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents; three children: David, Clifford, and Debbie; granddaughter: Sarah Lue; one brother: Luther; two sisters: Lizzie Dee and Della Joyce.
He is survived by seven children: Diane (Robert) Arrowood of Morristown, Teresa (Donald) Whisler of Cosby, Gary (Ruth) Herrell of Lake City, Fl., Carol (Michael) Smith of Middlesboro, Ky., Synthia (Vernon) Brantley of Tazewell, Gary (Brandy Longan) Patterson, David (Jessica Cooley) Patterson both of Monroe, Mi.; five brothers: Lonnie of Fort Wayne, In., Clifford (Thelma) of Middlesboro, Ky., Billie of Monroe, Mi., Roy (Mona) of Cumberland Gap, Ford (Pauline) Herrell of Corbin, Ky.; two sisters: Shirley Herrell, Mildred Stanley both of Monroe, Mi.; seventeen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Tuesday, March 7 at 3 p.m. in the Coffey Funeral Home Chapel in Harrogate. Burial in the Hooper Cemetery in Harrogate.
