"Revilo Holmes, former supervisor of the town of Westford, and one of that town's oldest and most prominent citizens, died at his home in Westford village Sunday morning. His strength had been gradually failing since a general breakdown in health suffered early in the winter. Mr. Holmes had lived nearly all his life in Westford township, having been born in Maple Valley May 3, 1847, the only child of the late Joseph Marvin and Paulina Washburn Holmes. His ancestors were among the pioneer settlers of the town, and before coming there were New Englanders, one branch of the family being traced back to the Mayflower ... While he was affiliated with the Democratic party, he was independent in thought and never bound by rigid partisanship. His political supporters were found in both parties. He was often a delegate to political conventions before the days of direct primaries and was well known by those who were politically active in the county. Mr. Holmes married Susan E. Snyder in Westford in 1871, Mrs. Holmes and two of their three sons survive: William R. Holmes of Westford and Frederick P. Holmes of Utica. There are also several grandchildren. He was a communicant of St. Timothy's Episcopal church. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 11 a. m., with burial in Westford cemetery."
