H.V. Shepherd, well-known and one of the oldest business men of Bethesda, passed away early sunday morning in a Wheeling hospital where he had been a patient for the last month.
Deceased, a son of Benjamin and Rachel Ann Sandford Shepherd, was born June 13, 1864 at New Castle where he spent his earlier years. He had resided in Bethesda forty-five years and for more than thirty years had been engaged in the automobile and transfer business. He was a member of the New Castle Methodist church.
Besides his wife, who was Elizabeth H. Lucas, of Hunter, to whom he was married in 1890, he is survived by the following children: Mrs. Cora McCormick, Mrs. Martha Mueller, Don and Lowell Shepherd, Bethesda; John Shepherd, Barnesville. He also leaves two brothers and two sisters: William Shepherd, Bethesda; Crawford Shepherd, New Castle; Mrs. Bessie Tompkins, Mrs. Desta Larch, Canton; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral service was held in the Bethesda Methodist church Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock conducted by Rev. Erdia Kollar, assisted by Rev. A.A. Gilmore, Quaker City. Interment was made in Ebenezer cemetery under direction of Steel Funeral directors, Somerton.
