He was born Aug. 22, 1934, in Elizabeth, N.J., the son of Robert Nelson Murray Adams and Jane McCreadie Anderson Adams.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War era and a retired machinist.
He volunteered as a hunter safety instructor for more than 20 years.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Eleanor Marie Adams; two brothers, Alexander and Robert Adams; two sisters, Jean Smith and Agnes McDonough.
He is survived by his brother, William Adams of Treasure Island, Fla.; three sons, Nelson Adams and wife Beverly of Winslow, Eric Adams of Winslow and Howard Sanderson of Farmington; two daughters, Donna Mounce of Winslow and Linda Temple and husband Robert of Winfield Park, N.J.; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Beard's Funeral Chapel.
A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. with Pastor Perry Hall officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date at the Fayetteville National Cemetery. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Beard's Funeral Chapel and Crematory of Fayetteville.
