Age 59, of Wattsburg, he died from injuries received in a tractor accident two weeks ago. He was the son of the late Ernest and Edna Viola Steen Hess. He had retired from the General Electric Co., where he had worked for 28 years. He also previously worked for Doyle Security and for Saint Vincent Health Center. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, having served as a medic. He was a member of the American Legion Post 700 in Wesleyville and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4789 in North East. He also was a member of the Lowville Seventh-day Adventist Church. He enjoyed sports cars, NASCAR racing, horses and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ann McLaren Hess, whom he married May 18, 2001; a son, Paul David Hess Jr. of Wattsburg; a daughter, Debra Ann Swan (Ron), of Wattsburg; a sister, Linda Freeman (Lowell), of Wattsburg; seven stepchildren; three grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
