Son of Nathan A. Simmons and Catherine (Burrows) Simmons.
His paternal grandfather was Nathan Aniel "Pappy" Simmons who was born in Sparta, Tennessee, USA.

He was a resident of Dallas for 23 years before moving to Mesquite in 1950. He was employed by the John Tarter Company as a housewares salesman and was a member of the Dallas-Fort Worth Housewares Club. Mr. Simmons was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters,Deborah Ann (Simmons) Raney and Sandra Sue (Simmons) Erikson and one son, Nathan Edward Simmons Jr., all of Mesquite.

He died from complications due to Gardner Syndrome.
