Born Edward Thomas Rudy. Birth year 1842. S/O Jonas John and Mary Magdalene Miller. Never married. Died 9 days before his cousin Joseph Rudy buried in grave 11147. The following provided by Dennis W. Brandt in an email dated 18 May 2014. "The son of Jonas John & Mary Magdalene (Miller) Rudy and stepson of Mary (Rupley) Rudy, in 1860 he was a laborer living in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, the place of his birth. He enlisted and mustered into federal service in the field at Bee Tree Switch, Baltimore County, Maryland, October 1, 1861, as a private with C0. B, 87th Pennsylvania Infantry, and eventually rose to the rank of sergeant. He was captured near Petersburg, Virginia, June 23, 1864, and incarcerated in the stockade at Andersonville where the official cause of death is listed as "diarrhea." Ed Rudy had three brothers who were also veterans, but only he failed to survive the war. The news of Edward's capture and subsequent demise came from the letters of Ed's 87th Pennsylvania comrade James Corl, whose brother relayed the dreadful news to the Rudy family. His father was a thin and sickly but well respected mail carrier in Harrisburg and took the news of Edward's death so hard that his health failed."
