Edward Clay Andrews was born Jan. 25, 1922 to Ellis Reeves and Ada Edwards Andrews. He attended grammar school, and was occupied in farm work as he grew older. He enlisted in the US Army on Sept. 24, 1942 from Alleghany, NC and initially went to Camp Croft, SC. His serial number was 34432340. He was shown as single. He was attached to the 455th AAA Bn., Battery 'D', at Camp Stewart, GA. He also trained at Ft. Benning, GA. He was with the 455th AAA through their travels in England, France, Germany and Austria until the end of the War. His military job was MOS 345 (Truck Driver, light). They were attached to the Third Army under Geo. S. Patton and were in the XX Corps of that Army. When the War ended, the unit eventually returned to the US in Oct. of 1945 aboard the "Howard Victory". T/5 (Cpl.) Edward C. Andrews was shown as being on the passenger list of the ship, still in Battery 'D', as the ship sailed from Le Havre, France to Boston. Edward then resumed civilian life...His wife was Mary Ruth Griffith and they had three daughters Ruby Ellen, Ruby Ellen Anders Andrews and Mary Sylvia.

Edward passed away on May 11, 1995 in Alleghany, NC. Age 73.
