One terrific man. Sergeant U.S Army World War II. Husband to Margunde (1923-2015). Father to Roswitha, Frank, and Denyse. Grandfather to Craig (1973-2010), Kelly, Brittney, David, Chase, and Greg. Worked as a civil engineer for Cal Trans for 27 years. Eddie was an all around nice guy, and a whole lot of fun to be around. Eddie loved to have fun no matter what. For Halloween he would dress in such elaborate costumes. He once went as a half man-half woman. One year he dressed as a woman, and his friend Franz, a very small man, dressed like a baby. They bought a carriage and Franz rode in it and Eddie pushed. They had a blast playing mother and baby. Eddie adored his wife. His daughter recalls him that on a whim he would turn on a record surprise his wife cooking in the kitchen, grab her hand and they would have a nice waltz before dinner. Eddie's great passion was sailing. Being from Maine he grew up around boats, and just loved to take his family sailing. Denyse thinks of her father every time she sees a sailboat. Eddie was great but also had a temper, and could say or do things that were not always nice he did not like you or felt betrayed, but everyone, even those he had his scrapes with, miss and love him. If you look up the word likable in the dictionary, a picture of Eddie would be next to it. He loved his wife until his death. Eddie met his future wife when he was stationed in Germany during the War. Once he laid eyes on the beautiful German frauline, he was hooked. He had to get passed her strict father, who kept his daughter in toe. That task was not easy. Trying to impress him, Eddie wanted to tell him that he went hunting in the woods in German. Eddie got his words confused and told his future father-in-law that he goes to bathroom in the woods. There was always comedy when it came to Eddie even when it was not deliberate. Even with the occasional battle, Eddie and Mickey loved each other. They settled in Modesto, California. There they enjoyed Friends and all the parties their group of friends had. Eddie and Mickey could party tell all hours, and indulge in some drinking. One night they had a little too much. When they arrived home Eddie thought he would carry his wife into the house and lay her on the bed, but in actuality he took her coat inside and not his wife, she was out cold in the car, and boy did he hear it in the morning. Eddie and Mickey always had the greatest stories. In early 1994 the fun came to an end. While traveling in Germany Eddie got sick. He was put in a German Hospital with fluid in his lungs. After he was released they flew home. Once home he got worse, and was diagnosed with cancer of the lining of the Lungs. He rallied in August, but got worse. He could no longer eat. On Thanksgiving he had his last meal. Their good friend Margaret brought some food over. Eddie was not Hungry, but her asked "Margaret did you make it," she said yes, and he said "Then I am going to eat it." Mashed potatoes were his last meal. He died in his wife's arms four days later. He was 78.
