"Thomas Huntington, six year old son of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Huntington of Westford was killed on Saturday afternoon at his home when he was buried under about a quarter of a ton of coal which had been trucked in from Pennsylvania. Exactly how the accident happened is unknown ... The grandfather and three other of his sons, Robert, Donald and Peter, (uncles of Tommy) hurried to the James Huntington home and applied artificial respiration methods. Calls brought Westford firemen and the emergency squad from Schenevus fire department, the latter with a respirator. Meanwhile the ambulance arrived from the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown and took Tommy to the hospital. He was given oxygen and every effort was made to revive him. The grandfather said he believed Tommy was dead before leaving the home. The young victim, Thomas Edward Huntington, was born April 2, 1949, in Westford, son of James R. and Helen (Millias) Huntington, and was in the first grade at Draper Central School. Besides his parents he is survived by two sisters, Linda and Roxanne, and a younger brother, James R., Jr.; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell S. Huntington; maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Otho Millias of Worcester; aunts, uncles and cousins ... The body was placed in Westford cemetery vault for later burial there."
